- I'm hoping that someone here can help me with this little problem. Where
- I work we are trying to set up a host system with a number of Hayes Accura 14400
- modems (They might be Hayes Accura 144, I didn't check to make dure) connected to
- a system running a new Windows NT Beta through a digiboard (whatever it is that allows
- 8 modems to be connected to a single port). We are having the following problem:
- When I dial into the host with a Hayes Accura 144 The Host modem answers
- and gets a connect string (CONNECT 19200), but no connect string is received on the
- terminal end (the Hayes Accura 144), and it eventually just hangs up. However,
- when I dial using a Hayes Accura 14400, I DO get a connect string on the terminal end
- (the Hayes Accura 144000). Our communications problems have given us troubles for
- quite some time and I think this is that is the final diagnosis of what's really
- happening -- something with the differences in the dialing modems. I assume the
- solution involves reconfiguring the host modems, does anyone have a good set of
- port settings and initialization strings for using Hayes Accura 144000 (and 144 just
- to be safe) as Host modems?
- I came to the prior conclusion as a result of these observations:
-
- I dialled the host machine with two different 144 modems on the same line, but on
- different computers (one running Windows 3.11, one running Windows 95). I
- also dialed the host using a DOS program on the system running Windows 3.11.
- Neither of these resulted in CONNECT strings on the terminal end.
- We've tried numerous bauds and settings to no avail.
- I remembered that a co-worker did have it working on his system, so I looked at the
- bottom of his modem to see the specific brand (144 and 14400 look identical)
- and it was a 14400.
- Before I realized that, I figured the problem might be the phone line on the terminal
- end so I tried a different modem on a different line and DID get the CONNECT
- on the terminal end. I now believe the modem on that line to be a 14400 as
- well, but neglected to check (I was in a hurry and had to leave).
- I concluded that the host needs to be reconfigured because I HAVE successfully dialed
- local BBSes and connected successfully with all terminal modems mentioned.
- I have reconnected the first modem from the Digiboard (or whatever) to its own COM
- port to eliminate any possibility of the intermediate device intefering. The
- same results hold.
